Introduction to ITPS 2007
The Instructional Technology Passport System (ITPS) is a compliance system with authentic performance-based assessments designed to promote ethical and effective use of instructional technology by teacher candidates at Illinois State University. Undergraduate and graduate students seeking teacher certification (i.e., all teacher candidates) are required to complete the ITPS requirements as part of the program leading to certification. The goal is to help teacher candidates and their future students deal more adequately with the technology that is having a greater impact on both educational processes and our society.

The ITPS competencies represent integrated performance tasks that have been derived from the standards established by the Illinois State Board of Education. Competencies are labeled A through I:

Competency
Title
Ethical Use of Technology
Web Searching
Telecommunications
Web Page Development
Idea Development and Presentation Software

Assistive Technology
Database Management

Gateways
ITPS competencies must be completed in three steps, each associated with an official Teacher Education "Gateway." The first is Admission to Professional Studies, and includes Competencies A and B. The second is Admission to Student Teaching, including Competencies C through H. The third is Exit from Student Teaching, and includes Competency I.

Attention: Students
Teacher candidates should use this web site to familiarize themselves with the system and with the tasks that will be required of them. The site is designed as a resource to help students reach their educational and professional goals, and is divided into three student sections:

Competencies: Here Competencies A through I are explained in greater detail, including expectations and criteria. Competencies involving online quizzes or tutorials will have direct links to the appropriate resource needed to complete the competencies.

Resources: Resources are provided for each competency, and include external sources that will allow students to master each competency. External websites are also provided that will assist students in gaining valuable knowledge to use within the classroom.

Evaluation: This page provides an outline of each competency, including links to the online exams and scoring rubrics (when appropriate). Information is provided for both native and transfer students regarding the completion of the competencies.

Attention: Faculty
It is important for you to familiarize yourself with the content of this Web site so that you are aware of the technology requirements for all of the Teacher Education candidates. In addition to student content, you will find important faculty-specific information and answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the Faculty page.
