Introduction to ITPS 2007
The Instructional Technology Passport System (ITPS) is a compliance system with authentic performance-based assessments designed to promote ethical and effective use of instructional technology by teacher candidates at Illinois State University. ITPS was recently revised to bring it more fully into compliance with evolving standards.

This system stipulates that all teacher candidates must demonstrate certain competencies in their coursework at different institutional gateways before graduating (i.e., admission to professional studies, admission to student teaching, and exit from student teaching).

Teacher candidates should use this web site to familiarize themselves with the system and with the tasks that will be required of them. The site is designed as a resource to help students reach their educational and professional goals.

Alignment of old and new competencies: Students who have completed ITPS competencies under the old system will be credited in the 2007 system according to the following alignment table.

Gateway Changes: Under the old ITPS system, Competencies 1-4 were required for admission to teacher education, Competencies 5-9 were required for admission to student teaching, and Competency 10 was required for exit from student teaching. Under the new ITPS system, Competencies A and B are required for admission to professional studies, Competencies C through H are required for admission to student teaching, and Competency I is required for exit from student teaching.

History of ITPS: ISU's Technology Learning Circle (TLC), a group formed in 2000 as part of the Illinois Professional Learners Partnership, developed the ITPS to ensure that graduating teacher candidates are able to use instructional technology in compliance with national, state, and institutional standards.

The TLC examined both internal and external technology standards and derived ten consolidated indicators that, as integrated tasks, address the multitude of elements presented in the various standards. Associated with each of these consolidated indicators was an authentic performance-based assessment task used to document student performance and ensure program compliance with adopted indicators.

During the 2006-2007 school year the system was updated to make it more compliant with existing technology standards, and to make required student performances more authentic.
