Technology Competency H - The teacher candidate demonstrates the knowledge and ability to use a range of assistive technologies to work effectively and equitably with students with disabilities. Gateway Requirement: Gateway 2 — Admission to Student Teaching (STT Gateway) See the Competency Homepage for courses associated with this competency. Authentic Performance Task: The teacher candidate will pass an on-line examination dealing with questions of technology as related to students with disabilities. The teacher candidate will also demonstrate competency with a set of identified assistive technology devices/software. Criteria: The teacher candidate will demonstrate knowledge and expertise of the following:
Following orientation, the teacher candidate will take an orientation test which must be passed at the 95% level in order to gain access to the next phase of hands-on experience at the SEAT Center. Experiences consist of working with different pieces of assistive technology to support both the aforementioned topics and the following topics:

Training Resources : The teacher candidate will attend a Special Education Assistive Technology Center (SEAT) workshop or independently read online resources. Assessment Process: The teacher candidate must schedule an appointment with SEAT Center to complete this competency. Submission Format: The teacher candidate will complete an orientation test and technology demonstration at the SEAT Center. Appropriate materials must be submitted in the student’s electronic portfolio. Passing Criterion: 95% level of performance on orientation test; 100% level of performance on competency test. |
