Ethical Use of Technology

Competency A - The teacher candidate demonstrates the ability to apply ethical standards to the use of instructional technology.

Gateway Requirement: Gateway 1 — Admission to Professional Studies (APS Gateway)

Authentic Performance Task: The teacher candidate will take an on-line examination dealing with the ethical use of instructional technology. The examination consists of 30 questions and deals with the application of ethical principles to real-life situations.

Please read and understand the information provided in the links from the Ethics Resources section of this web site.

Training Resources: Students will be introduced to usual and ordinary ethical standards associated with the use of instructional technology during required coursework. This includes such things as intellectual property rights, international copyright, university policies, Internet etiquette, etc. associated with this competency. Students will have free and complete access to a number of Internet resources. Students should study provided Ethics Resources prior to taking the examination.

All students should review ISU's on-line policy statements before taking the test.

On-line Exam: The ethics examination is available through the following secure Web site address: https://itps.ais.ilstu.edu/project/. Click on the test you would like to take. Do not close your browser while taking a test as you may lose any answers you have selected. More directions will be given on the page of the test.

A login name and password are needed.

Students will need to use their ULID for the user name and their ISU email password for the password.

NOTE: If you are using the proper login name and password but still cannot access the examination, your login name and password might not be in our database. E-mail for assistance.

Passing Criterion: A score of 90% (27 correct out of 30) or above is required to pass this examination. Students may retake the examination as many times as needed to achieve a passing score. A new test is generated each time. Remember to log off when you have finished.

Student Self-Assessment: Students may take an on-line sample test through a web site that provides immediate feedback.
