Idea Development & Presentation Software

Competency E - The teacher candidate demonstrates the ability to use idea development and presentation software.

Gateway Requirement: Gateway 2 — Admission to Student Teaching (STT Gateway)

Authentic Performance Task: For the combined assignment of Idea Development and Presentation Software, the student will create a presentation slide show that would be used for an educational purpose, such as instruction, curriculum or administration.  The presentation slide show must contain a design template, a title slide, title text, a hyperlink, an imported picture, and a graphic organizer.  The graphic organizer must contain one main idea and at least two subordinate ideas with six details.  Spacing, grammar and spelling must be appropriate and free of errors.  The student must write a rationale that explains the purpose of the presentation slide show and why a concept map or diagram is used. 

Criteria: The concept map or diagram should contain:

  • one main topic
  • at least three sub topics
  • at least six details

Training Resources: Teacher education majors may download free, 30-day free trial program files for both Kidspiration and Inspiration from the Inspiration.com web site. Please note that these are large files (~13 Meg) and that a high speed network connection is recommended for downloading. You may still contact Inspiration Software directly through their web site for a CD if necessary. The CD contains both Mac and PC formatted versions of Kidspiration and Inspiration.

Course instructors will provide basic orientation, but students are responsible for learning the required skills using available resources. University computer labs provide access to on-line idea development idea development resources as well as on-line presentation software presentation software resources.

Submission Format: Appropriate materials must be submitted in the student’s electronic portfolio.

Passing Criterion: 100% level of performance.
