Spreadsheets Competency F - The teacher candidate demonstrates the ability to use spreadsheets. Gateway Requirement: Gateway 2 — Admission to Student Teaching (STT Gateway) See the Competency Homepage for courses associated with this competency. Authentic Performance Task: In order to demonstrate this competency, the student will create a spreadsheet that could be used for an educational purpose such as instruction, curriculum, and/or administration. The spreadsheet must contain at least ten rows of data, row and column headings, and at least 2 functions/formulas. In addition the student will sort data in multiple ways and create a chart or graph using axis labels and titles. Why teachers need to be able to use spreadsheets:
Criteria: The spreadsheet should contain the following elements:

Training Resources: Course instructor will provide basic orientation, but students are responsible for learning the required skills using available resources. University computer labs provide hardware and software and access to on-line resources. Submission Format: The student must write a rationale for how this spreadsheet would be used for an appropriate educational purpose, and as well as the data analysis. A link to the spreadsheet must be included. All materials must be submitted in the student’s electronic portfolio. Scoring Rubric: A scoring rubric provides definitive criteria for assessing this competency. See the Evaluation web page for required elements. Passing Criterion: 100% level of performance for the technical criteria. |
